Over the last decade I've had a love affair with the practice of Ashtanga yoga. Similiar to any love affair, it hasn't always been joy and bliss....but for me, the benefits of doing this practice far outweigh the struggle to get out of bed and to my mat! Someone wise told me that with a regular practice of Ashtanga yoga, the qualities which do not serve us gradually fall away. I expect that someday in the near future I won't be so inclined towards sleeping in, drinking coffee and cursing like I sometimes (often) do. In the meantime, I get to my mat and enjoy such benefits as a calmer mind, a more compassionate heart, greater flexibility / strength and so much more.

I started my path to becoming a yoga teacher in 2000 with a teacher training in Calgary with Rockne White. Such a wonderful introduction led me to study further with senior teachers such as Nancy Gilgoff, Rolf Naukojat, Tim Miller, Joanne & Mark Darby, Jeff & Harmony Lichty and David Swenson. In NYC several years ago I was fortunate to take classes with the father of Ashtanga yoga, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, and am so appreciative to this sweet man and his grandson Sharath for a beautiful, life changing practice.

My intention is to keep the atmosphere at the Yoga Shala peaceful and welcoming to all students.

See you soon,
Dana
