An
Ashtanga yoga student since 1998,
I have a dedicated
practice through which I continue
to experience powerful personal transformation
and spiritual awareness.
I have had the opportunity to travel
to study and practice with many great
yoga teachers. I spent
the month of January 2004 in Mysore,
India practicing Primary Series under
the tutelage of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois
and his grandson Sharath, an amazing
authentic Ashtanga experience.
On two seperate trips in October of 2002 and June of 2005 I was able to spend a week with Guruji and
family in New York city on their World Tour's. Practicing with Guruji and Sharath and touching the roots of the Ashtanga practice rejuvenates and inspires me and I am planning to return to India in October 2006.
I have
studied Primary Series on
four seperate occasions with Darby, David
Swenson and Tim Miller;
taken workshops with Nancy
Gilgoff, David Williams, Fiona
Stang, and Richard Freeman.
I have made many wonderful friends
and acquaintances At the Market in Mysore, India 2006
in the Calgary Yoga
community. Through my teachers, friends,
students and continued self study
and practice, I am discovering the
true essence of yoga; the union of
mind, body and spirit.’
I was drawn to teaching in 2000 by
a desire to inspire others to learn
and practice Ashtanga yoga and experience
this self realization. In 2003 I opened the doors to The Yoga Shala - with the love and support of my family and friends and my amazing teachers for whom I am so grateful - and I am endlessly inspired by the students and community which now thrives in our beautiful space. Yoga is teaching
me how to find joy and equanimity
in all things. At the Old Shala in Mysore
Life offers us many
choices, and yoga has taught me how
to discriminate and live mindfully.
In addition to my teaching (which has also included 4 years of ‘in school’
children’s yoga), I continue
to study and practice yoga with enthusiasm
and reverence. I also enjoy running,
recreating, and spending time with
my husband Fred and my two children
(real life yoga!)
