Dear everyone,
After a 17-year history as good standing tenants, I am deeply disappointed to inform we will be unable to continue offering yoga classes at the 19th Street location. I tried VERY hard to negotiate with the landlord but he is unwilling to offer any relief aside from what the government is offering (which is short term and not enough). Going forward at the rental rate we were paying before Covid will be impossible.
Many other yoga studios in Calgary have closed due to the financial strain. The Yoga Shala surviving will be largely influenced by our community support. Most of our members were able to take advantage of discounted pass cards & memberships in the past, and are still using those now. In order to bring in revenue during this time it would help greatly if you are able to bring friends or family as new members! It’s only $49+gst for a New Member to join for 30 days and we are offering several classes daily. This would be an excellent gift for your friend or co-worker who is having a hard time right now (isn’t that pretty much everyone???).
Now, more than ever, we need to gather as a community. This is not fitness. This is mind and body and spiritual healing.
Now on a much more upbeat note…… I am so happy to be offering in-person classes (they will also be live streamed) each week at beautiful Banff Trail Community Centre. We had our first class Wednesday and it was freaking awesome!! We will hold classes here while we search for new spaces and monitor the Covid situation.
